London reports German forces in Russia face ammunition shortages blamed on Japan supplied weapons and stiff supply lines. Travellers say a spring drive is planned as 500 Japanese officers train Russian artillerymen on new high powered guns. Petrograd notes unrest toward military authorities as Russia boosts munitions and imports.
Ottawa reports Canada will raise up to 250000 troops. The government will authorize an additional 100000 beyond the July 6 150000 limit. With 173000 enlisted already and 23000 over the official figure, steps will be taken to reach the full 250000 man strength.
Paris reports the Briand ministry taking office with representatives from all parties. Justice Macdonald of Vancouver delivered judgment at the Bates & Rogers Company versus Mat Minzgehr trial over Fraser River G T P bridge accounts. Plaintiff awarded 9000 dollars, counter-claim dismissed except on one taxed item.
A G T P line incident forty three and a half miles from Prince Rupert killed train agent W D Tippens and engineer J Hastiz. The fish special failed to receive warning due to a curve and bumped the freight, derailing the engine and killing both men. No blame attached. accident considered unforeseeable.

London reports French forces after a three day battle occupy Strumsten and push twenty miles into Bulgarian land. Bulgarians suffer heavy losses as 150000 French troops with artillery reinforce Saloniki to aid Serbian front, rail link Nish-Saloniki repaired.
Reports from Petrograd describe a dramatic battle on the island of Dalen on the Dyina River. Russians lured German forces into position then bombarded from both banks, leaving German corpses described as piled along the river.
The Northern British Columbia Battalion under Capt. J. W. Warden is expected to be the premier unit leaving Canada for the British front. Recruits from Comox Atlin and the Yukon will form a specially selected corps with veterans and officers, deploying from Prince Rupert and Comox for mobilization and training pending commission.
British India starts shipping shells produced in private factories and workshops, seen as a decisive advance in the empire’s industrial capabilities. The project progressed from ore extraction to the final product with successful completion of all manufacturing steps.
