Street work may be changed to third street

A joint committee of streets and finance members will study transferring Second Avenue work to Third Avenue to speed progress and reduce costs. Alderman McIntyre proposed delaying Second Avenue and transferring to Third Avenue to secure equitable funding, with the Bank of Montreal noting unsettled finance.

Gunner Allen Found Guilty of Murder at Work Point Barracks

Victoria report says Gunner Allen of Work Point Barracks was found guilty of the August murder of Captain Elliston. Chief Justice Hunter set the punishment as death with an execution scheduled for December 2. Allen shot Captain Elliston as he crossed the barracks grounds.

Railway Charter Sought in North

Victoria October 7 Davis Marshall and McNeill of Vancouver announce an impending legislative application to amend the Portland Canal Short Line railway charter. The plan would extend about sixteen miles east from Stewart to the province boundary near Peace River, then through Alberta to link with Canadian Northern at Edmonton. A Dominion charter is sought for the new road. The route suggests D D Mann aims to enter the Peace River country in BC and Alberta, using the Peace River Pass, where rich grain lands are reported.

Indians Press for Federal Action on British Columbia Lands

Hazelton report from Harris Brothers on Nine Mile mountain west side shows eight claims and three veins, widths from eighteen inches to three and a half feet, yielding 125 in value. Winter work planned with a tunnel to be driven. snow may halt surface trenching. The camp could become a rich mining district with rising outside interest and a spring rush expected.
