Russian armies are reported driving German forces back while French troops land at Salonika and Allies hold positions on the western front. An official Petrograd dispatch notes engagements on the Riga front with advances north of Birsch Allen and skirmishes along the Niemen and Pripet regions.
Timber statistics for August show total sawlog output of 64 257 966 feet board measure plus 71 382 lineal feet of piles and poles and 8 829 cords of cordwood and related products. Exports reach 13 984 874 feet of sawlogs with Vancouver district contributing 13 302 413 feet. Revenue from timber sales is about 18 160 836 dollars.
Yesterday a group of ten recruits sailed for overseas service including Geo Fitzmaurice and four men from Alice Arm O M Watson Jolge Marshall V F Lade and G A Young. Others named were J Osborne P Timmons J G Sweeny J Boon and S D Long. About seventeen more expected on this evening's train from the Interior bound south.

After a wedding breakfast the couple departed for their tour amid hearty congratulations.
French forces totaling seventy thousand move along the Guergheliouskup line toward the guard road to assist Greece and Serbia. Greek Premier Venizelos resigns as the King cannot support the ministry's policy. Russia delays its ultimatum to Bulgaria, with a collective note from the Quadruple Entente promising a strong blow to Bulgaria and a 600000-strong allied army to shield Serbia and prevent Teuton reach to Constantinople.

Victoria Vancouver and New Westminster show various maximums near 11 cents and minimums around 6.875 to 9.75 cents. The southern cities use a different rate system.
