Port Essington Fire Destroys Key Buildings in Town

A serious blaze in Port Essington wiped out multiple homes and the Salvation Army barracks, government boat shed, several residences, and boatsheds. The fire started at Geo Church's residence about 3 45 pm and, aided by dry weather, spread toward timber before the wind shifted, preventing total destruction. The Inlander steamer was endangered but saved. The incident follows reports of halibut landings and local theatre events in the same port area.

Omineca Set for American Register and Alaska Service

Lieut Locke of the Alaskan Railway Commission arrives to change the stern wheeler Omineca’s registry from Canadian to American. The vessel, overhauled by Capt S B Johnson and Hal Peck, will sail to Alaska to aid railway construction, with Locke accompanying it to Ketchikan. In local sport, Colts vs B Cs baseball at 6 45 with Benny MacDaniel pitching and Geo Wally catching. Catholic Club debuts a new pitcher.

Massett Inlet to Welcome 40000 Foot Timber Mill on Islands

Demand for spruce lumber abroad spurs new sawmill on Queen Charlotte Islands. A fifth mill will be built at Massett Inlet by Mr. Sparks, with a capacity of 40 000 feet daily and employment for about thirty to thirty five men.

New England Fish Co Burned Out In Vancouver

The New England Fish Company suffered major losses when its Vancouver wharf and sheds burned Sunday night. Fire spread from Brown & Harvey facilities adjoining New England’s wharf, destroying offices and records. some cold storage damage occurred but equipment survived. Ben Self settled insurance for about 400 dollars. he plans to restart and awaits owner guidance. Governor Black of Yukon traveled north aboard the Princess Sophia to recruit a company for active service.
