Paris May 2 In a strong attack the French captured a first line German trench 500 metres long southeast of Fort Douaumont. West of the Meuse artillery activity continued through the night from Avecourt to Deadman's Hill. The war office said that in the April 29 30 attack north of Deadman's Hill France gained German trenches over a front of 1000 metres and a depth of 300 600 metres.
