School Board Delays Manual Training Plan For Half Year

At an adjourned meeting the School Board reviewed finances to see if manual training could start this year. With budgets tight no funds were available and deficits risked, so the initiation is postponed to another term. The district will advertise for the additional teachers needed after holidays.

Prince Rupert to Raise 175 Men for Next Contingent

Major McMullin of the 68th Regiment reports from Victoria that Prince Rupert will send 175 men in the next contingent. Two officers Lieuts Van der Byl and Marshall will accompany the band, with further enlisting across the district toward Prince George. Van de Byl, a qualified artillery and infantry officer, expects assignment to the machine gun section.

Steamer Thomas Crosby Chartered for Dominion Fisheries

The steamer Thomas Crosby, formerly with the Methodist Church mission on the coast, has been chartered by Dominion Fisheries replacing the old Falcon. It departed Rupert Marine Ironworks wharf with Capt. Capp and the Falcon crew aboard for Skeena River and northern fishery runs after engine overhaul. The vessel features a Scatch marine boiler, compound marine ship engines of 275 indicated hp, electric lights, and steam heat.
