Premier Asquith disclosed in the House of Commons that British casualties from the war start to May 31 reach 258,009. Officers Killed 8,327 wounded 6,498 missing 1,130. Other ranks Killed 47,015 wounded 147,482 missing 52,617. Totals Killed 50,342 wounded 153,980 missing 538,747.
The C. P. R. steamer Princess Alice arrived from Skagway yesterday afternoon and departed in the evening for the south. The ship carried a number of passengers bound for Alaskan ports on the round trip.
In a hard fought amateur senior match at New Westminster the home side defeated Vancouver Athletic Association 13 to 10 after twenty minutes of overtime. Tommy Gifford, famed Salmonbellies veteran, is coaching the local squad following Alex Turnbull.

Montreal reports Major General Hughes announcing Canada will raise thirty five thousand more men for France. The new force totals 27 infantry regiments and six artillery batteries, lifting Canada’s war service to nearly 150,000 men. Recruitment includes four Highland regiments and additional units as planned.

Military experts say the Galicia front shift may hinder German troop transfers to Italy or the western front.

Seattle lightweight Chet Neff faces Canadian champ Roughhouse Charlie Burns at the Vancouver Athletic Club on Friday night June 18. Promoter Dan Salt says terms are acceptable wartime. The bout headlines an all star card. Neff must weigh 138 pounds or less, not a strict title bout.
The Canadian Red Cross Society invites gifts of knitted goods and other relief articles to a donation receptacle at the Board of Trade Rooms. Vancouver reports a deadlock as the B C Electric workers' contract nears expiry on June 30. The company cites jitney competition and demands a ten percent reduction, while the workers insist on maintaining current pay rates.
The local lodge F. C. E. has decided to take over McIntyre Hall for a lodge room. It will be fitted up inside the next few weeks and then used at a regular meeting.
Ottawa announces that James BE Stephen and HW Derkson passed the preliminary outside division civil service exam on June 12. Stephen works at the local post office. His status ties him to Prince Rupert’s Bay area, while Derkson is from Prince George.
