Grand Trunk Pacific Reaches Tax Agreement For City Docks

City and Grand Trunk Pacific finalize a settlement on railway taxation and waterfront development. The deal includes 15 000 yearly tax payments for ten years, 100 feet of waterfront plus an extra 100 feet from government, and 172 270 acres of city land given under fee simple or 999 year lease. The plan also shifts railway land, expands park and cemetery parcels, and begins immediate development after assent from property owners.

True Bills Found in Victoria Grand Jury

The Victoria grand jury returned true bills against Milos Vuckovitch for shooting at Constable Phillipson with intent to murder. True bills were also found against Dan Babich and Juras Vujovic over Prince Rupert strike charges. Trials begin today at Fulton Street near Acropolis Hill park.

Taxation Agreement for Prince Rupert land conveyances

Memorandum dated June 8 1911 among the City of Prince Rupert the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway Company the Townsite Company and the Province of British Columbia to settle taxation disputes on railway lands within the city. It provides conveyances leases and restrictions including 100 foot waterfront blocks and 999 year leases for park and public utility uses with conditions on assignment use and monuments.

Prince Rupert poised for vast dockyard and hotel complex

Council and company advance a $ plan to build reinforced concrete docks able to handle any Pacific coast vessel. A 680 by 130 foot dock with three sections will form a major ship building yard. The project includes 2000 tons of steel and four million feet of timber for pontoons, with shops, tracks, a round house, and a large hotel site under consideration near the harbor. Public works also include widening and extending wharfage to Hays Creek and improvements along the government waterfront. Local labor will be employed as construction begins and the hotel site is chosen for an unobstructed harbor view.

The British Columbia Fruit Growers Association board meeting in Kamloops passed a resolution condemning the proposed Canada United States reciprocity agreement as detrimental to the BC fruit industry.
