Vancouver reports American steamer Leelanaw torpedoed off Scotland while sailing from Archangel to Belfast with flax. Major Peck describes troops showing bravery in battle as Russian forces retreat.
London reports the Russians hold General Von Mackensen's army in southeastern Poland while German forces cross the Narew River in the north and press Russians back. German planes bomb the Vistula bridge at Warsaw. A message to Harry McLeod names him acting registrar of the Supreme and County Courts after B. Morgan's death.
F H Morgan chief clerk in the Provincial Government officers died of heart failure or stroke while walking toward the harbor. Known as Doc Morgan, he arrived seven years ago as a newspaper correspondent and was highly regarded. City flags were half-masted in his honor after his death discovered on the railway track.
Northwestern League results include Seattle 2 Tacoma 5 Spokane 2 Vancouver Aberdeen 15 Victoria, while National League games show Pittsburg 2 New York 1 and 0 during the day. Other games listed include New York 3 St Louis 8 Brooklyn 15 Chicago 0 and Boston 1 Philadelphia 6 Cincinnati 2.

A total of 155 has been raised to date. The list sits at the Bank of Commerce with a goal by August 4, war anniversary.
