London dispatch reports the Servians reoccupying Belgrade after fierce combat and the Austrians admitting defeat. The Austrian despatch says their southeast Drina offensive near Valjevo faced superior enemy forces, forcing a retreat and signaling heavy losses for weeks of hard fighting.
At last night’s Council meeting the selection of engineers for the Shawatlans electric plant was revisited. James Black was named engineer in charge with R Gendall and G Waddell as assistants. temporary operator Dryer remained until a permanent governor arrived. The report urged four men be employed for quality work and listed Duncan’s engineer applicants. Steam plant duties were assigned to A Sinclair with Valentine and Gordon as second and third engineers. A debate ensued over whether to read applications and whether to let the Council or Duncan name staff. The mayor reported contacting Mr Ross in Seattle and, citing his reply, supported employing local engineers and four staff, though some favored advertising before voting.

In the Supreme Court Mr Justice Clement hears Crum versus McDonnell over hotel construction contracts in New Hazelton. The dispute centers on extras disputed by the defendant who says details are missing. The case involves the contractor Stevenson and partners with James McCrumm appearing for the plaintiff and L K Patmore for the defendant.
City Council to propose building a roadway across GTP property from general revenues after consultation with Post Office officials. Assistant Inspector Haynes says a road is essential to establish a sub post office at Seal Cove, a concession secured long ago by MP WH Clements, but not operative without access.
