Foundation Laying Begins for Canadian Fish and Cold Storage Works

Citizens gathered in Seal Cove as the Canadian Fish and Cold Storage Company started the enormous project with a concrete pour in place of a cornerstone. Mayor William Manson dumped the first concrete barrow, joined by city officials and financiers from Royal Bank Bank of Commerce and Union Bank, with G. Lt. Clayton overseeing construction. The plan, to be the world’s largest of its kind, involves extensive wharf work and a granite foundation sourced from Port Simpson to rear the reinforced concrete walls.
