Wreck of the Thistle at Port Fairy and its aftermath
The Thistle wreck near Port Fairy during a gale in 1830 ended with the vessel driven ashore after breaking anchor. Captain Mille and crew survived as the ship split on the beach. The scene is recalled as a landmark in early Vicari settlement and coastal navigation.
