Inter-club cycling plan expands with memorial races

Delegates from district cycling clubs met in Hamilton to draft a road season programme. A new 25 mile Frank Long Memorial Race at Hamilton is added in memory of the late rider Frank Long. Open inter-club events are planned across several venues from June to October, with fees to support operations and potential adjustments for race clashes. The Portland Club previously funded expenses, and a 10 shilling fee per club is approved to cover running costs. Heavy rain forced the local Cycling Club to cancel a 20 mile race, and the next Portland area meeting is scheduled for June at the Hanlon Park club room.

Birds and humans share harmony in a curious colony scene

A reflective column notes tame interactions among canaries and pigeons, falcons and owls, plus a sparrow with a missing leg. It follows observations on plumage, legless birds, and a rare legless sparrow sighting, then shifts to seeds sprouting after 60,000 years and a cat’s ownership paradox, ending with a Tasmanian sea monster sighting and TV science use.
