Germany says East Prussia is back with the Reich and the steamer Bremen is reported safe, with fears she may be converted into a commerce raider.
Berlin reports Hitler remains on the move along the eastern front touring battle areas yesterday. The Australian Associated Press dispatch from London notes the continued German leader’s tour amid ongoing hostilities.
The British steamer Manaar was sunk in the Atlantic with 33 crew saved and 18 missing after being attacked. Gen Hertzog asserts South Africa will not force citizens to serve overseas. London reports Sir Percy Lorraine met Count Galeazzo in Rome regarding foreign affairs. Refugees flee war zones into Switzerland including Alfonso XIII, Toscanini, and Paderewski.

A feature of the wheat market shows a price of 1/10 a bushel in Adelaide. The British Government fixes the South Australian and Western Australian afloat forward shipments at £11/3 a quarter. Latest official London quotations: Tin Standard spot unchanged at £229 18/9, three months up £12/6 to £227 15/1. Silver standard cash up 1-16d to 1/9 1-16, forward 9-16d to 1/9. Gold fine open market unchanged at £88 per ounce.
A proclamation may fix food prices at the August 31 ruling. It will require selling at the set price or risk confiscation if a trader refuses.
For the first time in the history of the Commonwealth a budget providing for an income of 100 million pounds will be introduced in the House of Representatives by Mr R G Menies Prime Minister and Treasurer.
