British Expeditionary Force and French troops sustain a massive rearguard stand in Northern France. German forces, using 40 divisions and mechanised support, capture Mount Cassel two miles from Cassel as retreat continues. Allied main base depots remain out of German hands and no major offensive has been launched by either side.
Allied efforts to extract the British and French from Northern France continue as warships and planes fortify Dunkirk. Fierce rearguard actions unfold in Lille and Calais while German advances press.
