Cairo reports from war correspondent Set Fitchett describe wounded German prisoners saying they were told Crete would fall in less than a day. Woman Trapped by Fire in Campsie Home

In Sydney on Thursday Mrs. Ronald Gibson of Campsie was trapped by a blaze while bedridden from injuries from a prior car crash. Her brother, an auxiliary fireman, waited at the station for instructions as Station Officer Ball crawled through smoke to reach her, but she had already been rescued by ambulance officer Joseph Flynn. The house was nearly destroyed and her husband, away at work, learned of the fire on his return.

Old Napperby resident Elwyn Budd dies at 53

Elwyn Hayward Budd former Napperby and Biri resident died in Adel aide Hospital aged 53 after three days illness. Born July 1888 in Crystal Brook he moved to Napperby as a child and later lived in Warnertown Pirie West and Adelaide. He married Dorothy Holls in 1914 and leaves wife, son Henry, daughter Miss May, brother Fred Budd and sister Mrs F Marrett. Remains interred at West Terrace Cemetery.
