Two men, Robert Reid aged 36 and James Beckett aged 57, were arrested in Melbourne on charges of vagrancy loitering with intent and placing an explosive with intent to do serious harm after a bomb was found on a verandah at a racehorse owner Phillip Loch’s Werribee residence. Loch extinguished a lit fuse, preventing an explosion. The men were remanded to Melbourne.

The High Court in Melbourne today refused special leave to appeal filed by Laborer Francis O Keefe and fellow claimant against the Country Roads Board. O Keefe, an Australian Workers Union member, claimed 44 pounds difference between AWU award and his pay for relief work.
