Sydney elders report at the Seamen's Union monthly meeting a motion of no confidence in general secretary J. Keenan passed 83 to 63. A resolution called for his resignation over dissatisfaction with his stance on registering the Volunteer Seamen's Union. If he refuses, members may sign a recall requisition.
The Labor Daily reports a miners federation backed plan to convene a conference of shareholding unions to discuss proposed changes to the articles of association. The move follows dissatisfaction with the board and Garden’s expulsion, with unions invited including printing trades, tramway, carpenters, tobacco workers and waterside staff. A special meeting of shareholding unions is set for June 8 amid claims of internal party efforts to disrupt unity.
Tuesday reports from Redhill Adelaide show rapid progress on the Redhill Port Auguste railway with about 80 men on earthwork and Linwood Quarries preparing a ballast crushing plant. Melbourne reports the judge overturned a jury verdict in a death pact case involving two police trainees, Mc Lachlan and George Vickers. About 90 members have found re employment since the strike, with around 40 seamen and firemen still unemployed.
Dr F W Norwood, famed for emotional oratory, told a moved congregation at the City Temple in London that he dislikes crowds and plans to spend his final days in a cottage with half an acre of land.
The community mourns Mr. Thomas Tobin a longtime Pirie resident who died after a prolonged illness. Born 1861 at Mature to Marcel Tobin he lived a substantial life as a timber worker farmer and trusted neighbor. He married Miss Mateant Colenco in Kapunda and spent years in Pirie where he was known as an honest upright man. Survivors include family members and a broad circle of friends who recall his quiet faith and dedication.
