In Pirie District growers, despite a week of rising wheat to 2/5 a bushel, show little selling activity. Farmers hold stocks, betting on higher prices amid US shortages and government price hopes. Merchants watch cautious supply shifts, noting farmer caution and agent uncertainty amid volatile markets.
In a Monday session, witnesses recalled discussed evidence of service in the wheat exchange. Australian Triple hw Company representatives and farmers attended as the commission examined allegations to secure Wortgames from farmers. Sir Herbert Gepprhidemans adjourned after two hours, deeming the case overly involved. the dispute essentially remained unresolved with both sides sticking to their positions.
In Adelaide the Industrial Court heard an application on salaries and a 38 hour week. L C Hunkin, Public Service Commissioner, said clerks in the Public Service earned more than similar work outside. He noted outside clerks often work under different conditions and suggested pay scales reflect the gender balance. The discussion touched on minimums and recent wage determinations with figures cited for recent periods.
A gasometer explosion in Hong Kong sent a sheet of flame through three city blocks of tenements. Scores of Chinese residents were trapped as buildings burned, with many severely burned and fleeing into the streets. At least 50 were hospitalized and death toll feared to exceed 60. Dozens remain unaccounted inside houses.
In Tokio Mr J G Latham Australian Attorney General pressed Prime Minister Hirota for a clear statement denying Japan fortifying mandate islands. Hirota affirmed the policy and would consider the suggestion. Latham dismissed sending a diplomatic envoy, noting a trade commissioner could be appointed in the East.
A 23 year old man Jan Sibinka and his 20 year old lover Blazena Kudel kova defied a marriage ban by wiring power cables to complete a kiss. Jan was killed instantly. Blazena is not expected to live. The couple, from privileged and servant classes respectively, were forbidden to marry before their deaths.
London scorecard reports a great partnership with Ponsford 199 not out and McCabe 163 not out. In first innings Wyatt, Millis, Ey, Oldfield, and Chapman among others tally a total of 401, with bowling leads by Wall and Grimmett and others.

Inspector Johns and family spent the weekend at Royal Exchange Hotel, and Adelaide business figures Mr. Lucas of McLeod’s Retreading Works and Mr. H McKay of Melbourne moved on to Adelaide. Others, including Mr. Levy of Wrigley’s Ltd, Mr. C W Fiske of Whyalla, and Mrs E L Mise Pv and Master W Symons, joined the Moonta motorship for a voyage to Adelaide. Scribes note W J Porter traveled from Pirie to Adelaide on the Moonta, while L D Zubrinich left Pirie for a holiday in Adelaide. Crystal Brook teacher Mr. G Phillips departs to Thebarton after farewell gifts, and Mr. Pietsch of Kevern Sturt Copan Limited is staying at Central.
A Bugatti racing car plowed into a dense crowd awaiting a road race near Fontainebleau. IX persons died including the driver, and two were seriously injured. A woman spectator was decapitated. The driver, believed to be a military aviator, was among the dead.
Reginald Kenneth George Coxall, 23, of Cadell, held in Adelaide Gaol awaiting Criminal Court trial next month for murder of his father, seeks bail. Milhouse engaged to vet bail, with Waikerie solicitor Bernard Von Brrich to obtain instructions. Bail likely to be considered by a Supreme Court judge, as only rare cases permit multiple bail.
John Beckett, a former Labour MP turned fascist, was at the center of a large protest in Newcastle on Pancist day. Thousands shouted traitor as a crowd brandished sticks while police charged to end the disturbance. Beckett and his fascist group retreated to their headquarters before the crowd dispersed.
Monday report from Mathoura New South Wales states Philip Joseph Nolan died at Echuca from injuries after a motor car carrying six people to Rochester overturned and skidded on Saturday. Four other occupants William Schmidt David Joss Colly Monae and Jack Wad remain in a serious condition.
The Arbitration Court under Chief Judge Dethridge issued an interim award in the locomotive enginemen dispute, ordering new engine preparation tests with union oversight. Until tests occur, crews revert to previous stabling practices, with further talks and possible Board of Reference involvement if agreement fails.
Berlin reports eight people including a woman trapped in the hull of the tug Merker after it sank during berthing of a liner. Rescue attempts failed as the hull flooded, workers drilled at a hole with oxy acetylene, while observers heard tapping from inside before the tug finally sank deeper.
