Australia faced a stern Lord's Test against Middlesex in a three day match. At stumps MCC led 341 for seven with Hendren 135 and Wall taking four for 64 as the tourists struggled with bowling and fielding.
A group of Aver ward secondary schoolboys led by Mr W H Gee arrived in Pirie to tour Whyalla and Port Augusta, meet local officials including Pine Mayor W H Threadgold and Rev J J Kilmartin, and attend a St Marks versus Proprietary football match. The visit aims to show South Australia to future leaders and highlight Pirie’s role in industry and wartime production.
Mixed foursome results show Mr. and Mrs. J Hopkins leading with a net 70 in a large field. Scores include J A Garland with Mrs Hyoe 91 17 74 and W F Scott with Miss J Grey 95 P F Somerset and Miss G D ibdin 102 27 75. Local clubs list numerous pairings and stroke totals from the weekend event.
Mr BM Lovell begins 13 days annual leave in Pirie with holidays possible in Pirie district. Mrs EV Clark and G B Smith from local boards and firms arrive or stay at Royal Exchange Hotel. After swimming and town tours the group attended church services and planned to depart for Whyalla at 7:30. The party praised Pirie hospitality and thanked the mayor for support.
The Pirie lads gave 30 shillings to support Mayoress Relief Fund after a plea by thought of fellow townspeople. The Recorder editor arranged to pay the contribution into the fund. Mr Gee praised Mrs Threadgold for her charitable sewing and the town’s generosity.
A list of fifty plus passengers including Mysdames ft Thomas and J P Blake set to embark on the Moma for a Gulf trip to Moonta this afternoon. The long roster names many adults and children, with W Porter and L Zubrinich among the later arrivals.

Visitors from Sed hill Napperby Solomontown Rieton Park and Adelaide were welcomed. Addresses were given by Mrs PF G Johnson of Adelaide Rev Wiltshire Sedhill and Rev Goliney Crystal Brook. A public tea followed in the Sunday School Hall where foundation members were noted.
