German forces and Axis sources forecast Sebastopol’s fall with Moscow reports noting the garrison has received do or die orders. Paris Vichy broadcasts stress Sebastopol’s reduced local value, signaling a major Crimean loss for Germany.

Report states James Ince, a butcher, kept 74 lbs of horse flesh and 7 lbs of mince in his shop cooling chamber. The court heard he did not intend to deceive but to mince for a friend to feed racing dogs. Authorities note horse flesh is not harmful to humans but not subject to the same checks as beef.

Mr and Mrs F P Hackett of Seventh Street Pirie West have been notified by the Department of Air that their son Sgt Michael Hackett has been posted missing after air operations. He was a wireless air gunner and once played football with St Juniors before going overseas.
The King awarded Squadron-Leader Herbert C. Plenty a bar to his Distinguished Flying Cross for courage and duty. Plenty, 23, from Watertown, previously earned the DFC in 1942 for Malayan exploits after training in Australia and service over Alo. He was reported missing in January 1942 but later reappeared after a crash landing two miles off the Malayan coast. His elder brother Geoffrey Plenty, also a serviceman, is mentioned in connection with overseas duties.
The Rocky River district poll declaration was made at Gladstone by reaming officer J G Deeble. Final figures show TA Lyons of LCL with 2815 votes and TW Willcott of ALP with 1120 votes. informal votes total 17.
