A deputation from the Australian Railways Union met the Premier and Minister of Railways in Melbourne on Thursday to demand restoration of the 10 percent wage cut and oppose the cost of living adjustment. They argued the base 9 shillings per day fails to provide nourishment and leads to disease, citing long-standing hardship among railway workers. Canberra reports a street fatality in Grote Street Wright Street after a Tuesday incident. The victim was identified tonight as Thomas Hedditc, 58, of the Church of England Men's Hostel Wright Street. The event coincides with a projected drop in the favorable trade balance, from 25 million to 18 million pounds, amid imports increases.
Melbourne court heard Ray Murray aged 72, a Leeds manufacturer, faced theft charges over a £400 business deal.
