RAF reports successful attacks on bomber engine and rubber works plants while ground fighting intensifies across Burma. German forces advance or resist in Kalinin front with heavy combat and back and forth bombardment.
Allied air operations targeted Axis bases near Paris and in the Low Countries. German raids damaged Norwich killing historic houses and churches while stores in the city center were demolished. Six British planes are reported missing and Burma and Ei Honan fronts show renewed fighting.
Allied troops continue fighting south and east of the Irrawaddy River in Burma. A Chinese dispatch from South Honan notes a Japanese offensive toward the north on April 2, with heavy fighting, 100 Japanese killed, and 150 lorries destroyed before the attack was halted.
Soviet reports claim Red Army broke a Nazi advance on the Kalinin front with heavy losses to the attacker, including destruction of eleven tanks. Berlin Radio also said Soviet troops on the Svir front near Leningrad conducted a bayonet charge as part of ongoing combat.

Adelaide report states Arthur Harvey a 49 year old casual laborer and woodcutter, camping at Wil lunga Hill hut, fell into an open fireplace burning his right leg from thigh downward. He was found at 6.30 pm, rushed to Royal Adelaide Hospital in serious condition after 10 pm, remaining conscious.
Mr McNamars of Selemontown was charged in a police case. Mr and Mrs W S Dyes of Ys hill have returned home after a few days in Pirie with Mr and Mrs G Anderson. Bearman of Selemontown is seriously ill in hospital at Pirie. Mr H Loftes chief warden has returned home from a civil defence conference in Adelaide.
In Pirie Police Court yesterday a total of £ 262 4 was acknowledged for the Prisoner of War Fund. Dr G X Williams was re elected president of the Pirie Chub and related items include potions and business concerns. Total to date details appear in court records and funding summaries.
