Mayor W H Threadgold presided as residents debated whether 311 should be spent as cash to Pirie traders for clothing and boots rather than goods for work. The council urged cash distribution to aid local shopkeepers while opposing labor-for-goods plans.
Mr Threadgold said Watlon telephoned the Unemployment Relief Council about Pirie purchases. The secretary was away but the assistant secretary told the Mayor the Pirie request would be considered and a reply sent soon. Threadgold asserted officials could obtain items in Pirie at or below the quoted price.
