British outflanking units forced a German withdrawal from El Hamma as fighting raged on the town’s outskirts. An additional Eighth Army force advanced south and west taking prisoners, while the First Army pressed the offensive toward Jeb-el-Abiod.
Sunday reports describe a heavy Royal Air Force attack on Berlin with clear weather and concentrated bombing. Nine bombers are missing. Berlin Radio acknowledges high explosive and incendiary bombs mostly hit residential areas and claims early waves were driven off by gunfire.
The Netherlands Admiralty reports a Dutch submarine in British service sank a 4,000-ton Japanese supply ship off the Norwegian coast. The sub has now sunk about 20,000 tons of enemy shipping, including one U-boat, during operations off Norway and in the Mediterranean.
The Admiralty reports an early morning engagement off the Dutch coast where German craft faced Allied attacks. One enemy vessel was destroyed and another heavily damaged, affecting Beltish forces.

Mrs E R Krieg, 67, died after a kerosene fueled ignition accident at Port Germein. Her husband, Mr Krieg, tried to light a fire when kerosene spilled, causing an instantaneous explosion that set her clothing ablaze. She was rushed to Pirie Hospital for treatment.
A Sydney board to examine a new artificial respiration method described by Dr G Gibbons as Eve's Rocking method. The patient lies on a stretcher pivoted on a trestle and rocked 60 to 90 degrees 12 or 15 times a minute to stimulate breathing. It claims simpler operation and greater breathing volume with no skilled operator needed.

Luis Firpo former Argentine heavyweight contender says he will take Alberto Lovell current Argentine champion to the United States to fight Joe Louis world champion in Los Angeles on May 5 to aid the Red Cross. The army reportedly blocks Louis from defending his title and officials had proposed a Louis versus Conn bout with a war bond admission.
The Irie Traders' Association discusses supply shortages from civilian manufacture restrictions, tobacco distribution, and wartime measures. New officers elected include Sparks as president and Ford as vice president with plans to boost membership and attendance.
A letter to MP A W Lacey from M McIntosh of the South Australian Government Firewood Supplies Committee notes 12 merchants in Pirie with about 40 tons on hand and 150 ton weekly need, while 610 100 tons weekly arrive. It calls for 30 cutters, carriers, and transport to meet five month demand, with costs around 24 shillings per ton and potential supply from Wirrabara Bundaleer and Oodlawirra.
