A boating tragedy was averted in Boston Bay yesterday afternoon when a sail canoe containing two lads Peter Angelin and Thomas Sawyer was caught by a sudden puff of wind and capsized. Capt Harvey who was in a boat nearby rescued the boys. Sawyer was almost exhausted and suffering cramps.
Port Augusta’s Alex Reid enjoyed a brief Victoria visit with trainer Maurice Bishir Pirle after the Stawell meeting where Reid failed to win the final but secured good odds. Adelaide fans hoped for a strong finish and they expect a warm Port Augusta reception upon his return, with local support shown by Mr Beerworth who followed the heats on wireless and traveled to see the semi finals.
Frederck George Read a noted sportsman and railwayman died in Adelaide aged 71. He spent years in Pirie as chargeman at the running sheds and served as goal umpire and cricket referee. Survived by seven sons and three daughters, with two sons Phil and Jeck who played for West Torrens. Funeral in Adelaide with relatives from Pirie.
