Four London hospitals were struck in raids last night with a hospital wing alight before evacuation of patients. It was the heaviest raid night yet for hospital staff and first aid workers. Most German radio stations ceased by 9 pm, suggesting RAF activity against Germany.
An Allied communiqué describes a blitz with speed and fire. The attack began violently and faded after midnight with incendiaries striking private homes and other buildings. Some ports faced service disruptions, while defenses aimed to deter raiders with anti aircraft fire and alarms. Night workers and others paused as searchlights swept the sky and shells burst in the perimeter.
Bulgarian police announce the discovery and arrest of a spy ring directed by an Englishman. It is alleged he received a monthly salary for military information given to British agents. Those arrested have confessed their guilt.

In Washington the House passed the Seven Billion Dollar Lead and Lease Appropriation bill and sent it to the Senate for discussion. In Tokyo Mr. Matsuoka, on his way to Berlin and Rome, will remain in Moscow for up to three days amid amendments aimed at reducing the appropriation and extending the government greetings to Russia. He will conduct no negotiations.
Canberra reports a penny a gallon rise in petrol prices across the Commonwealth from Friday, driven by higher customs duties and landed costs. Oil firms may raise prices by three farthings to ease margins, amid ongoing cost pressures and prior justification for the hike. A southerly breeze and a heavy rain shower were noted in Suey weather later.
Sir Earle Page unveils a £6,000,000 plan to create a three months reserve of essential foodstuffs and household goods for emergencies. Retailers store stock under control, with costs borne by governments if bank credit is needed. Emergency stocks exclude slaughtered meat and some perishables.
Mr R T Latimer, son of Booyoolie Station manager John Henry Latimer, died Tuesday. A longtime figure in stock agencies, he served 20 years with Bagot Shakes and Lewis before joining Dalgety Co in 1920 as assistant to W S Bolitho. Bolitho retired 1929. Latimer then led the stock department until his death. He leaves a widow two daughters and a son.

A ten year old boy with heart trouble collapsed while hurrying home after a rainy day in Pirie South. His body was found in a dry track near Boward Street the previous evening. Constable J W Corer and coroner C A Degenhardt determined no inquest. Cause of death heart failure. Burial held at Pirie Cemetery with Fr F Hayes officiating. Floral tributes from family and friends listed.
Irene H. Warren reports consignments from Red Cross circles sent to Adelaide headquarters on March 18 totaling 632 articles. Items include balaclava caps bed jackets towels bedspreads mittens stockings and garments with gifts noted from Mrs Rohrsheim and Mrs Threadgold among others. Civilian relief and air raid victim goods also dispatched to Adelaide with several circles contributing small numbers and money gifts listed.
Readings show yesterday's high at 75.2 and low at 62.7 with a 24 hour span ending 8.30 am. Wednesday's max was 81.3 and 8.30 am reading 62.9. More showers expected today though most of the north should be fine.
The Federal Department of Labor announced exemption for waterside workers over 25 from military service. Port Adelaide authorities previously requested civilian workers be exempt, prompting the decision.

An afternoon of bowls saw Pirie Smelters defeat Gladstone Ladies Bowling Club on their green. Mrs Forgast welcomed visiting teams, with Mrs Mundy replying. Tea was served as the home team posted scores Pirie 87 Gladstone 49 across four fours and twenty lines.
