St Patrick's Day parade marks Pirie celebration amid canceled meeting

St Patrick's Day was celebrated quietly in Pirie with a spectacular procession through the main streets. Despite widespread display of green, the horseracing event at Pirie course was canceled, disappointing children who look forward to the dance displays. The procession began at St Mark's Church and featured St Mark's Band, school tableaux, and a large turnout led by chief marshal P McBride with officials J J Madigan and P F McMahon guiding the route through Gertrude Street and surrounding avenues.
