London sources report that Finland may accept what is viewed as the Soviet final peace offer despite earlier rejection of Russian terms. Diplomats note opposition in the Finnish Parliament but agree that the hardline faction is weakening as evidence from London suggests potential shift toward agreement.
Allied Fifth Army advances after a heavy Cassino bombardment with infantry tanks and air support. Northern Cassino resistance subsides as troops seize a hill en route to the monastery. British and American forces press attacks at Anzio. Drive toward Uman targets Pervomaisk while a Russian column nears Nikolaev. Rede Army pushes along the Dnieper Estuary toward the Bug Estuary.

In Canberra the Health Minister says Commonwealth Laboratories will manufacture penicillin to prevent profiteering and avoid commercial frictions seen in America. Mr J P Roper maister of the South Australian Farmers' Cooperative Union died in Pirie Hospital aged 62. He led the Pirie branch for years and became an authority on the wheat trade shipping and farm prospects in the north. He was a keen cricketer and remained interested in sport. The funeral will leave his Broadway home this afternoon.

Rev Maurice D Giles to join Risdon Park Methodist Church and will arrive in Pirie on Friday, April 14.
Prime Minister J Curtin recalled on a broadcast to America on the second anniversary of General MacArthur’s arrival in Australia. He praised the Allied forces under MacArthur for gallantry and efficiency, noting Australia had not submitted to Japan and had avoided a fate like the Netherlands East Indies.
The latest list approved by Mr S W Jeffries Minister of Education names Mr as locum tenens for head teacher at Crystal Brook West School.
An explosion and fire at W Hermon Slade and Co. Pty. Ltd in Rosebery gutted part of the chemical factory. Deak Robert Chaplin, 57, of Rosebery, died from extensive burns after a chemical burst into flames. Allan Shipton, 35, of Leichhardt, was injured while aiding Chaplin.
Cpl. S. A. Fisher is on leave with relatives in Pirie and, with Pte Greenwood, flew to Whyalla for a brief visit.
