Residents in Pirie West report a night prowler known as Peeping Tom who peers into windows and climbs verandahs. Despite disguises and searches, the elusive man remains at large, with reports of footprints and blinds cut while authorities pursue him.
Local items report Mr C H Woodward leaving Port Pirie for Melbourne and returning next Monday. T R Taylor of Pirie named as South Australia lay representative for the Australasian Methodist Conference in Sydney in May. G Charlesworth holidaying in Pirie while recovering health. Miss F Nettie Perryman leaves for Sydney to attend harbor bridge opening and celebrate coming of age with Mortdale hosts. Pirie Town Council pays respects to late residents B D Wells C A Jones and Quirk.
An Adelaide resident Mr. W Myles claims to have found a new butterfly species in the Minneum area. Authorities are conducting exhaustive inquiries to confirm if the insect is native to Australia and has previously been observed here.
In Melbourne Criminal Court the defence presented alibi evidence for six men James Adams Harold Williams Lawrence Stanway James Scott Robert Brewster and Hugh Martin in a case arising from the shooting of Constable Derham on the night of November 20. Williams claimed he was at home until 8.30 and out to meet a man in Prahran until 9.30. Shanway testified of visiting his sister in Port Melbourne and the Victoria Market, returning home about 9.45. Davis testified Williams bought crayfish at Victoria Market around 9 p.m. Scott said he knew the others and after tea went to the city played billiards walked near 9.10 and later saw Stanway briefly before returning home. The evidence was incomplete and the case remains part heard.
Von Hindenburg led the Warsaw election but failed to win an outright majority, forcing a second count. Southern Germany showed strong Catholic support for Hindenburg while Hitler trailed in some regions. Clashes between Nazis and communists erupted in Remscheid and Hueckswagen. about 200 arrests reported as Berlin saw street fighting.
Sydney reports that Premier Lang sent a telegram to Lyons asking that the Financial Enforcement Bill not be activated until New South Wales tests its validity before the High Court. He cites legal advice that the bill is ultra vires. Police guard the State Treasury as a large sum sits in the bank to cover wages for the month.
A large early morning crowd at Broken Hill gathered to register for work as Central Mine prepared to reopen on April 4. About 150 men queued before 8 o clock and the influx grew to 300 400 with registrations limited to former employees. Talks of further reopenings at Proprietary Block 14 and British mines circulate though unconfirmed. Traders anticipate regional benefit from new employment and increased circulation of wages.
Mir Md Dieton mayor urged careful water use at Port Pirie with Beetaloa Reservoir officials noting scant supply. He proposed government projects around the reservoir to create jobs and expand catchment work while stressing households should stay within limits.

He said it would employ about 600 men at the Barrier and add thousands of tons of ore for Port Pirie improving work at the Smelters and waterfront, lifting local spirits. He called Broken Hill mines vital to the town’s lifeblood and urged more such gains.
London report of Mr C Hanbury MP and wife chasing their 17 year old son and his 17 year old fiancée to Gretna Green. An aeroplane diverted to Blackpool, then by train to Gretna where the blacksmith refused the marriage for not meeting the three week Scottish residence rule. The four returned to London tonight. Engagement to be announced later.

Coleman of Melbourne and others to draft recommendations for submission to the unemployment conference.
