Pay Day Change Promised By Mining Firms in Broken Hill
C J Emery president of the Mining Managers Association says after June the North mine and Zinc Corporations will shift pay days. One Friday workers at those mines will be paid while another Friday workers at South and Central mines receive wages. Traders welcomed the return to the previous weekly pay system. The current two-week cycle was seen as hindering business and money circulation. Man Injured In Car Smash At Hindmarsh Intersection
A collision between a motorcycle sidecar and a motor car at John Street and Port Road Hindmarsh yesterday afternoon left Sydney Moore of Torrensville in Adelaide Hospital with severe head injuries and a fractured leg. The car’s owner Leopold Hanson, his wife, J Jelley and others escaped injury. Moore’s wife is seriously ill in Calvary Hospital after an operation.

Miss Lothie Kretschmer, recently ill in Adelaide Hospital, is improving and may leave soon, then stay near the city before returning to Pirie. About 190 guests attended Mr Don Ward’s first birthday party at Crystal Brook. gifts included a gold key, gold sleevelinks, a travelling rug, and money. Mr Pearce spoke for guests. Messrs H M Waterman, L C Waterman, and G H Waterman, who stayed at Royal Exchange Hotel on business, returned to Adelaide Saturday. Mr and Mrs W S Quartly will move from Broken Hill to Collarenebri to run a new business. Mr Quartly has 35 years with Harris Scarfe, formerly Broken Hill manager for 15 years. Mrs Quartly has long public and charitable involvement, notably with the Country Women’s Association since 1923, Benevolent Fund, Presbyterian Ladies, High School Parents and Citizens Association, and related civic bodies.
