Town leaders move to inspect slaughterhouses and seek government help to appoint a competent inspector. They discuss estimated costs once cited at £20 000 to £25 000, with hopes a modern scheme could cost £12 000 to £15 000. A report and site recommendations are urged before funding decisions.
Joseph aged 14 died today after being seriously injured by a ship rocket explosion at Williamstown last night. Two other victims remain in dangerous condition. Donald Tulley 15 has a fractured leg. Ronald Bury 10 has skull, leg, foot, and finger fractures.
England trails in the fourth test after South Africa declare 318 in the innings. England's second innings score at luncheon shows 357 with key dismissals including Smith Bakewell and Barber, while Wratt remains not out.
