Murder charge over baby found on St Kilda beach

In Melbourne an inquest heard Irene Williams was committed for trial on a murder charge after the body of a male infant found on St Kilda beach on June 24. Williams, 24, a Bt. Kilda waitress, said the child was born June 23 and she believed it stillborn. She wrapped the body in newspapers and threw it into the sea. Medical evidence showed the child survived birth and died from head injuries.
