Melbourne trade unionists urged the Commonwealth Government to act on postwar reforms. They called for wage regulation changes, full employment, immediate wage relief, a four hour maximum work week within six months, 14 days annual leave, and better health and sick benefits.
London reports from Supreme Headquarters say Caen front fighting intensifies as Germans possibly reconquer Carpiquet Village while British hold main Verson lines. In the west American troops advance past La Haye Dupuits and Mont Gardon amid heavy clashes. Luftwaffe loses tallied at 35 planes shot down in fierce battles over the area.
Supreme Headquarters reports that a sizable force of enemy R-boats and E-boats attempted to enter the eastern anchorage on July 4. They were intercepted and engaged by light coastal forces, two enemy R-boats sunk and one severely damaged.
