Allied forces who landed at Nettuno have captured the port of Anzio and extended their bridgehead north and south with inland advances. Rome is increasingly within reach as German counterattacks failed to hold one bridge span and were driven off by artillery and tanks.
The Saint Warden case began in the city court with owner-trainer John Nicholson charged with causing a racehorse to be driven over a road beyond a limited distance. Prosecutor W A Fuge described Saint Warden as Queen to Adelaide in a float smirn by a panel war fitted with a gas producer. The horse left Melbourne on December and started the return trip for the night of December 27.
Local weather notes show Sunday and Monday temperatures with highs in the 80s and 90s. The garbled OCR lists a sequence of times and temperatures, concluding with a Monday high near 92.6 and an unspecified low, indicating warm evening conditions ahead.

Miss Kutzer died in Adelaide at 22 after attempting to join the Australian Women's Army Service. Eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Ve Rutger of Darks Street Solomontown she lived in Whyalla Riverton Tire Pirie and North Adelaide Hospital. Survived by sisters Vera Mewar and Folin and brothers.
Tramway and bus employees in Sydney and Newcastle will cease work at midnight, bringing all transport services to a standstill except trains and private bus lines. The coroner found Alfred Henry Bibborough and William Francis Russell accidentally drowned after their fishing boat Barbara capsized about six miles downriver near Mangrove Point. Despite extensive searches by police shipmates and locals, no bodies were recovered and the inquiry urged continued search efforts.
John Sabey of Teneam Street Solomontown suffered a severe left thumb injury when an axe split the wood he was trimming. Blood flowed, a St John Ambulance helper Fitzgerald treated him, and a trained first aider living nearby assisted at the scene.
Paul Swit appeared at Pirie Police Court on Monday for insulted language after offences near Seumrin American merchurt. The witness said at about 3:43 am on Saturday the constable and Mitchel saw the defendant using insulting words near Plorengs street house, and Mrs Walterson identified him as the offender.
