Obituary for Billy Farrell of Jertrude Street Port Pirie describing his cheerful nature and wide circle of friends. He was skilled with paints and pencils and active in junior football. His funeral from St Marys Church followed by a service at St Marks with a large attendance.
The thermometer recorded a Saturday high of 73.6 and a minimum of 59 for the 24 hour period ending 8.30 a.m. Yesterday’s maximum was 70.5.
Police pursue a river murder case in Wagga after the victim’s body was found in a local premises. Witnesses link the suspect to a brawl and a possible attempt to conceal the crime by dumping the body in the river.
Mr Lacey announced he will maintain two homes in Adelaide and Port Pirie to balance duties as a district representative and Town Council leader. He will continue to represent North Ward, spend as much time in Pirie as before, and reside with his son in Pirie when visiting. He expects to move the Adelaide home within a week.

Newcastle Sunday. District Officer Les Hurley of the Newcastle Fire Brigade headquarters was saved from severe burns by Fireman Clarke. Heavy rains and downpours disrupted crops, damaged telegraph wires near Lithgow, scorched a pad sock, and forced evacuations. In Bright, a record 173 points were logged as storms struck a schoolyard clock and rain lashed the region, while rescue workers saved crews from a capsized boat off Frankston as strong winds drove boats seaward.

Mr H W Inglis a 61 year old railway clerk known as a prominent Methodist lay preacher in Pie West is found dead in his garage Saturday evening. He had recently faced heart trouble and leaves a widow and daughter Alles M A Inglis. He was a familiar figure at Central Methodist Mission in the town.

The new Methodist Hymnbook, with 984 hymns plus Psalms and canticles, sold in record numbers in Britain. Produced by the Methodist Union under Rev F Wiseman, it replaces Wesley’s 438 hymns with 1250 in the new text. Use of Amen narrowed to end prayers and praise.
Sister K Ward, soon to be married, was feted with a high tea by Port Pirie Hospital staff. A set of SSH knives and forks was presented to the guest of honor. Ward had led the medical ward for six years and earned her alias in Pirie.
