In a Kilcunda cliff explosion this morning two holidaymakers died. Names and ages awkwardly captured in the fragmentary report. The blast shattered walls of two houses, sending debris into the sea and causing widespread panic among nearby guests and residents.
London reports Teruel battle now extends over a 24 mile front with fleets of new tanks and heavy guns from both sides. A former insurgent general's staff colonel says the outcome could decide the war, comparing the ferocity to World War I French actions.
A hundred witnesses are summoned for the Demsey inquest set to begin January 4. John Thomas Demsey, who disappeared on October 11 with his truck from Calder highway, was found three weeks later body tied in a sack in a Kinglake West bush gully. Four men are charged with his murder and will be cross examined by legal representatives during the inquiry.
Three cane of infantile paralysis were admitted to Metropolitan Infectious Diseases Hospital at Northfield early today. A girl 161, of Maile-End, a boy 10, of Prospect, and a man 30, of Northfield, were among the new entries. One person discharged, others to be discharged. Central Board says total notified since November 1 is 77 with four deaths. Four patients free of infection to be discharged tomorrow, two more new cases added today, including a girl 3 from Nailsworth and a man 40 from Adelaide. Two suspects yesterday declared definite cases.
Melbourne records 31 more infantile paralysis cases lifting the total to 1985. The day includes Jane of Mildura and four Lamplough siblings near Avora. Health Commission chair A N Fentonby notes holiday delays in many reports. A Oakleigh patient admitted last night dies, marking the seventy eighth death of the epidemic.
After one of Pirie’s stormiest public meetings the beer dispute was declared off and hotel trading to resume. The Trades and Labor Council will press publicans to raise glass capacity as 84 hotel staff gain relief and a voluntary levy on drinkers is rejected. Paris reports that the Popular Front cabinet threatened to use troops and conscription to keep essential services running as 100,000 workers stayed off the job. Army engineers aided by naval experts would run electricity and gas. unions ordered a return to work as funerals were delayed and city services faltered.

A M Henderson of Rutherglen Gold Dumps travels from Melbourne toward Western Australian goldfields, en route back to Melbourne. M Hutchinson of Solomontown returned home after visiting the city. attended Glenelg Commemoration Day sports earlier.
