New York report states the United States submitted details to the United Nations about a pact with Iran. The agreement reportedly covers a U S military mission and aims to boost the efficiency of the Iranian Army.
Hollywood reports Errol Flynn has signed a 13 year deal with Warner Bros. that pays about 260000 dollars per year. The contract requires one film per year to be completed within 14 weeks, with Flynn free to work on other projects for the remaining 38 weeks.

Sydney report of Gwenda Yee an 18 year old Chinese girl and Ernest Goulding 21 were quietly married by a Church of England clergyman at Parramatta. Yesterday Miss Yee was granted permission to marry. She had been hiding from immigration officers for five months after her permit to stay in Australia expired. Her father wished to take her to China to marry a man she had been promised to since age five. It is not expected immigration authorities will order her to leave Australia.
Washington officials said the United States would keep using 14 military bases in Panama for defense of the canal despite the Panama Assembly rejecting a new lease. The dispute centers on the B29 base at Richato but not the canal itself. US contends a 1942 agreement runs until one year after final peace treaties.
An Adelaide inquest into the death of Bessie Florence Boulton of Glanville on November 15 concludes that she likely died from shock after a chemical abortion attempt with tablets. Pathologist Prof J B Cleland says the death aligns with attempted abortion. The husband Reginald Houston testifies to separation terms and suspected abortion plans. The inquest is adjourned to January. Bail granted for Henry Wilkes, Dorothy Wilkes, and Douglas Pryer in manslaughter case.

Frederick Raphael Carter a 44 year old assistant chaser of Whyalla pleaded guilty to five counts of indecency against two girls and one against a boy. He was sentenced by Justice Ligertwood in Adelaide to three years and ten months for the first three counts with three years to begin after the fourth and fifth counts and three years concurrent on the last count. Rome Tuesday Constituent Assembly approves a new Constitution by 453 to 62 with no abstentions, laying the foundations of an Italian Republic. The Assembly first met in June 1945 and took six months longer than originally planned. Mr. Degenhardt to retire after 64 years in the grain trade including 45 years in Pirie as manager of Thomas H Webb Ltd local branch for 12 years. He represented the Government Produce Department and did sampling for local grain firms for many years. He served on Pirie Town Council from 1919 and was senior alderman. he was mayor until 1930 and later won a North Ward seat last year. He was long a member of Pirie Hospital board and active in Red Cross and other charities. Born Kensington September 30 1863 he began as a grain trade clerk at Orroroo, later managing branches in the North before moving to Pirie in 1902. He led branches for five firms and opened Pirie branches for James Bell & Co and for Bunge Australia.

In Pirie Police Court on Monday Cecil James Briggs of Pirie Hotel and John Alexander Theodoros of Revell Street Pirie West were each fined £2 with 10 costs for fighting in Ellen Street on December Set. Prosecutor W V Virgo said Constable Giles saw them spar near Pirie Hotel about 4 50 pm. Theodoros said he retaliated when struck first. Briggs said they argued over a girl and he took exception to something said. Both bore blows. Theodoros shirt torn. Theodoros sought name suppression but this was denied.
Pirie Block School, a small outpost with 15 scholars, closed its year with an open air concert and Christmas tree. Mr J W Mulligan wore a gifts dispenser costume while lighting was provided by J F Lock. Funds and items were raised by parents and supporters. prizes went to Christina Mavromatis and J Smale.
The Pike YMCA and associated clubs wrap a productive year with break-up evenings at Telowie Beach. More than 30 boys and 30 parents attend the midgets celebration where prizes are listed for Valiant Vigilant Viking Fleetfoot Trojan and others. January openings to be announced.

A luncheon served forty five Tuesday workers. a cake by Mrs. A S Martin was shared and gifts sent to sick members. Key decorations appeared in the rest room as the choir and Father Christmas led a festive program with music and carols. Gifts of pottery went to several members including Mrs. J Gill and Mrs. J Wes. The bridge club’s petty was celebrated with ten tables of players and prizes donated by Mr. E Easton. Home baked biscuits and sweets were given to patients.
After a Pirie shop workers meeting secretary J Button said the Pirie Trades and Labor Council would pursue a 40 hour week. The council endorsed a petition to amend the Shopping Act to fix Pirie trading hours at 8 30 am to 5 30 pm Monday to Friday. Traders offered to cooperate on an early closing act to a five day week, proposing 9 am to 5 30 pm Monday to Friday and 9 am to 1 30 pm Saturday until the amendment passes.
