She modestly says she top placed in English literature yet her record shows eighth in general honors with credits in chemistry and passes in mathematics and physics. Denise won a bursary at Pirie High School and tied for dux at Adelaide High School with Max Hansberry. She will enter the science faculty next year and specialize in biochemistry and bacteriology.
