The Minister of Commerce announced a new guaranteed price for the 1948-9 wheat crop. The bulk price for ports is 6/8 a bushel, an increase reported by Mr Pollard. From December 1 local consumption is also set at 6/8 a bushel. selling price applies to wheat now on the board.
Pirie town council discussed amending the Local Government Act to allow a lighting rate for street illumination and to fund ambulance maintenance. A rate of one penny in the pound could raise about £590, with a show of hands possible under existing rules. The council called for ratepayer appeals, hospital rating parity, and a push to the Local Government Association for action.
The debate over the Pirie Abattoirs board envisions a five member panel with at least two and preferably three consumers from the council, plus a butcher and a amold member, to ensure balanced representation. Proposal outlines two members for first and second year terms, and a third year term.

In Port Pirie an Industrial Court hearing examined claims by the Hotel Club Restaurant and Caterers Employes Union of South Australia for a new award covering workers in cafes boarding houses guest homes and similar establishments. Demands include weekly wage scales from 4 17/6 to 7 7/ with allowances 1/6 to 2/6 weekly, an eight hour day five day week, overtime rates time and a half for the first four hours then time and a quarter, Sunday and public holiday work at double time, 14 days paid annual leave, sick leave, travel allowances, and better shifts. Representing the union were A R McKenzie and M Connelly. for the associations were A R Burley South Australian Cafes and Confectioners Association and South Australian Guest Home Association.
Reuters reports a cease-fire agreement signed by senior commanders of both sides in the Jerusalem area. Firing stopped at the indicated morning hour as United Nations Truce Commission observers note the halt.

Adelaide report states British and Continental cars can be bought without permits from December 1. Holden, the new Australian car, will not require a permit, while American and Canadian cars and utilities will still need permits per Sir Richard Butler, chairman of the Liquor and Control Board.
