After historic floods in New South Wales Kempsey faces disease risk as rotting carcasses and damaged sewers raise health fears. Health authorities report no cases yet as anti typhoid stocks are rushed in and 300 workers clear debris. Death toll stands at ten three and aid is directed to assist cleanup.
Mr A P Gale of Crystal Brook Engineering and Water Supply has been notified of his appointment as keeper of Barossa Reservoir near Gawler and will depart soon for duties. Mrs Tom McDonnell of Pirie visited Adelaide to meet her brother Mr P Fitzsimmons of London who plans to move to Pirie. Crystal Brook Bowling Club honored long service by making Messrs S Threadgold and J Symons life members, with officers elected including W J Dawson president and W Sargent vice president.
Reports from rebels and government claim the revolutionary Nationalist Revolutionary Movement has seized the southern half of Bolivia and northern Amazon regions. Rebel radio says Santa Cruz, Cochabamba, Oruro, Potosi fall, with La Paz still contested. government bombs Cochabamba as mobilisation and unrest grow.
A Greek rebel radio broadcast says government forces suffered 14000 killed wounded and captured last week, raising total losses since August 2 to 26000. Government experts deem guerilla position in the southern Sramimos area hopeless.
Sympathy for Mr and Mrs Norman Holdsworth in the loss of their son Philip John 21 who died suddenly on Saturday night was expressed at Pirie Cemetery on Monday afternoon. The service drew a strong turnout from Broken Hill Associated Smelters where he worked in the drawing office. Local officials including Mr C L Davis MP acting mayor and Mr J 48 Leahey town representative attended with the Smelters manager B A Greenworks and other officials. Rev Stanley H Mayes conducted the burial service assisted by Rev R J Shanks. The coffin was borne by six young workwatch friends: Doug Martin Ken Ellis Charlie Wallace Max Dewey Will Birrell and Martin Connell
Longtime Pirie couple Mr. and Mrs. Charles Scarman mark fifty years of marriage and seventy two years in town. They raised ten children and forty three grandchildren, with seventy four descendants in three generations. The celebration at Risdon Scout Hall and Balmoral Road home featured a wedding breakfast for 71 adults and batch of performances by family members. The couple plan a New Zealand trip to visit daughter Mrs Jack Love, with relatives Emma Williams Dawn Williams and others in attendance.
Adelaide Tuesday reports a strong recovery by D B R Adams of Port Pine in the Royal Adelaide links event. Adams posted a 75 in the morning and 81 in the afternoon for 156 total, while Ralph, Davies, and other Pirie and Crystal Brook players posted solid scores. Northern No 1 group won the opening day team championship by two strokes, with Pirie No 1 placing third overall. In KSA basketball, Pirie women’s series results show Tryan and Nicholls among top scorers with strong defensive play noted.
A Tasman Empire Airways flying boat bound for Auckland was forced to turn back to Sydney twice after in flight motor trouble. The craft took off at 6 am and signaled 300 miles out that it would return. It departed again at 11:20 am but landed at 1 pm. Officials expect a new takeoff around 8 pm tomorrow.
Solomontown Primary defeated Pirie Primary in aggregate points after a long list of events in the third annual inter-school fixture. A program for Port Germein Warnertown Nurom Wandearah East schools drew parents as athletes competed across sprints jumps and relays with Warnertown Port Germein Wandearah East and Nurom among top performers.
A trailer carrying 1,200 skins and 140 hides caught fire on Pirie Crystal Brook road yesterday afternoon. The blaze damaged 149 skins and five hides, but firefighters and the truck crew saved most of the cargo. The incident involved a trailer owned by F. Mareitich and a truck driven by George N. Coombas, with cooperation from Crystal Brook volunteers and police. Insurance covered the losses.

A major upgrade at Pirie Primary includes better lighting, modern window design, two timber framed classrooms, a remodeled large staff room, new flooring of Oregon timber in many rooms, and improved drinking and washing facilities. Grounds repair continues as the school closes for holidays.

Henry Edwiny Martin of Bun gama faced Ellen street north driving without due care under Road Traffic Act section 120 after a collision near the Smelters car park. Taxi driver John Leonard Heinrich testified the other car appeared fast in rain. Martin blamed poor visibility and said he signalled. Verdict found proved. Martin fined £3 with costs and seven days detention in default, fourteen days to pay.
