Dense petrol fumes blanketed Pirie on Monday evening causing coughing and searches for leaks. The tanker British Endurance discharged spirit at Federal Wharf but no leak was found. Fire crews and police guarded the wharfs for hours as pumps were tested under high pressure until the fuel disappeared. The mystery remains unresolved with no trace of a leak aboard or ashore.

Pirie motorist cleared of three driving charges
In Pirie Police Court yesterday judge AV Gillespie dismissed three charges against Robert Latts Forgan of Solomontown. He was accused of driving under liquor influence, driving without due care, and failing to report an accident within 24 hours. Forgan pleaded not guilty. costs against the prosecution were disallowed.

Seven cyclists were fined by Mr W C Gillespie in Piisi Polion Court yesterday for riding without lights at night. Defendants include Buchanan Donald Kenneth McLeod Thomas Edward Fitzgerald Leonard Frank Knott and a youth, each fined 7/6 with 10s costs. Patrick Law Davidson Arthur Waller Sturgeom each fined 7/6 with 10s costs. William Sylvester Scott admitted failing to stop at a Stop sign at the Florence and Mary-Elle streets junction on July 19 and was fined 7/6 with 5s costs.

In Pirie Court House the inquest into the death of Mrs Imelda Catherine Vizard of Fourth Street Pirie West heard she had initially claimed a bicycle fall but later said her husband Dr O W Leitch kicked her in the stomach.
