Canberra reports that if the government succeeds in nationalising private banks it will move to seize control of private insurance. Officials are examining the implications and a senior minister says the Commonwealth has constitutional power to take over insurance.
Opposition leaders describe a policy as the most spectacular move to socialise every sector in a speaking country. They compare it to Soviet Russia and urge private citizens to resist government directives in financial and business activities.

London and J Appleby tied for first in a three mile women’s road race, both finishing in 10 minutes 99 seconds. J. Appleby was fastest, with J. Mathews in third as six riders competed.
Sydney papers report the New South Wales Labor Government will introduce two marriage loan laws modeled after Russian schemes. Each loan provides about £150 in coupons for wedding or household goods. £50 of the debt is canceled at each birth, with full liquidation after three children. If no child is born within six years, the total becomes repayable to the government.

Personal item notes Mr E HD Russell MAR Jett traveling to Adelaide by last night’s train and a hospital patient. Admits Mr A J Sjostrom of Florence Street Pirte to hospital. A boxing match at Telbourne stadium saw Little Paras defeat Mickey Carr on points in a hard hitting bout attended by 8,714 fans.
Two prominent Pirie figures died over the weekend. Cecil Wrighton, managing director of Presta Limited, fell ill in Melbourne and died in hospital after a stay at the Glenelg branch. Thomas Robert, former chief constructional engineer at Smalters, passed away after long service in the town. Wrighton, born in England 58 years ago, built up Prests into a major regional concern with new branches and interstate links. The firm will close stores in mourning and a half-mast flag flies at the head office.
Firefighters from Pirie Fire Brigade attended Mr A G Thornton's residence on Three Chain road Solomontown to tackle a chimney blaze. Two appliances responded under District Officer A M Griffin and Senior Fireman W G Hill. No damage to the house was reported. In other news Hutton scored 63 as England led with 311 runs in first day play at London.

Mr Dibdin aged 74 died Saturday at his Goode road Pirie West residence. Born in Rockhampton Queensland he was chief engineer at Mount Morgan gold mine and later shaped Rockhampton public buildings. He served Pirie Tech School council, aided youth, painted in oils and watercolors, and exhibited at the Royal Adelaide Show. He left three daughters Mrs Fletcher of Maleern Victoria and Misses Gertrine and Marjorie Dibdin of Pirie.
