At the Coroner's Court today strange evidence emerged about the death of William Evans aged 41. He was found shot in the head with a revolver in his right hand at the Hotel Sydney on April 17. The deceased's wife, staying in Gipps-street East Melbourne, had told a woman she lived with that her husband planned to kill himself after she left Sydney. He is said to have sewn 500 pounds in notes into her corset before she departed Melbourne on April 16. Evans accompanied her to Sydney, then went to the hotel and appeared to shoot himself. His mental state was said to be affected since his war service. The wife has been missing since police questioned her in Melbourne.
German delegates telegraph to Berlin on the French Ruhr evacuation proposal and await a reply by tomorrow.
