Melbourne dispatch reports two men named J Johnson assistant mine manager and W Parry underground foreman were trapped in a tunnel at Wonthaggi State Coal Mine while investigating a fire. The tunnel is sealed. If the reservoir is used to flood the mine, full flooding could take two to three weeks.

In Fremantle on Monday, George Moorehouse, Rottnest light keeper for three years, died in a accident on the rocks below the lighthouse. Leslie Story, passing the main light, heard groaning and found Moorehouse with fatal injuries after a 110 foot platform fall. Moorehouse, a married man, leaves a widow and three children. A post mortem is ordered. cause likely a fall from the top platform while working on the lighthouse.
