Fire destroys Manly Wharf milk bar and saves ferry service
A blaze at Manly Wharf caused about £3000 damage to a milk bar and adjacent wooden structures. Nine firemen entered the flames to rescue four safes with £113 and six tills with cash. Death of Adelaide Steamship Co executive G Oswald
Mr. George Oswald, superintendent engineer of Adelaide Steamship Company, died suddenly at 58 in Adelaide after collapsing at Killara golf club. A Dundee native, he rose from second engineer on Rupara in 1907 to chief engineer of Warilda during WWI, then engineer in charge and later superintendent engineer of the Adelaide company. He supervised ship design since 1923 and oversaw Manoora construction in Scotland in 1934. Mourning flags were raised in Adelaide and Port Adelaide offices and on ships.
