Wheat quotations advanced a further penny a bushel today lifting merchant offers to 3 5 a bushel on trucks at Port Adelaide and chief shipping ports. The move followed a sharp Chicago market jump from 3 to 3 78 cents a bushel, marking the highest price since July last year.
The latest prices show a rise of fourpence a bushel, with Pirie city prices at 4/54 a bushel on trucks Port Adelaide and miners. Shipments are below last year while customs manifests list 11,003 lines shipped by South Australian Farmers Cooperative Union and Louis Dreyfus & Co on the steamer Wirrani last week. The present price is £0 19/4 with little grain shipments since mid April and a record peak not yet matched since November 1944.
Eat was quoted at 3/10 bushel in Melbourne today, the highest price since August 1930 and up about 1/4 a bushel since June. Traders expect prices to be established near this figure.
