In a Plymouth air raid German bombers caused fires but one aircraft was shot down. British planes hit Brest docks. A sandstorm in the Western Desert halted the German advance leaving the fight unsettled. New York expects 40 coastguard craft under construction there to be transferred to Britain on completion.
German aeroplanes attacked Plymouth last night in waves with incendiaries and high explosive missiles. One raider was shot down by a fighter. Damage and casualties are not yet confirmed as the raid continued along the south west coast. London reports the Royal Australian Air Force directed operations and sighted ships near Brest.
Vichy and Britain clash in the Horn of Africa as British warships anchor off Djibouti, sealing a complete port blockage of the capital of French Somaliland on Tuesday.
