The Telowie anniversary services were conducted in conjunction with the Baptist Sunday school with Rev A Gowans preaching in the afternoon and Mrs Gowans speaking on Brazilian mission scenes in the evening. Children sang, Miss Beyer was organist. The Monday picnic on Recreation Ground drew visitors from Port Pirie Port Germain and Baroota. Ladies provided dinner and tea, prizes were given for children's sports and a Barola versus Telowie tennis match produced a home victory. South Australia’s Premier A H Peake died suddenly at 3 30am after a cerebral clot. He had been in sound health, spent yesterday fishing at Noarlunga, and his death prompted tolling bells and half mast flags. Born January 13 1859, Peake migrated to Australia young, served as Nor racoorte district council clerk for 19 years, entered the House of Assembly in 1897, later rising to premier and various ministries before political shifts led to his final coalition era. His passing marks the end of a turbulent yet influential era in state politics.
Condemnation and shock swept Adelaide as news of Premier Peake's death spread. He died at 3 30 p m after a cerebral hemorrhage in his bed, with Drs noting there was no hope. He leaves a will and four daughters Amy Beatrice Grace Winnie. Arrangements for a State funeral were made with a service at St Andrew's Unley and burial at Webh Terrie Cemetery, Police Band to attend.
