Stowaways Charged After Tongarieo Incident at Fremantle

Mothers Day at Port Adelaide gathering honors volunteers

A Mothers Day event in Port Adelaide under civic auspices saw speeches from the Mayor and councillors and addresses by Rev. J. Peters and others. Attendees included Messrs L. Coney, J. Jonas, Keal, and Grosvenor. songs were performed by Isabel Burton and Hilda Oldfield. A collection supported the District Trained Nursing Society and the School for Mothers.

Oval for Albert Park outlined for recreation reserve

Commonwealth plans mark ten to twelve acres at Albert Park aerodrome for a recreation reserve. Parafield Woodville District Council requested part of the aerodrome, four acres offered is too small. Preliminary plans show ten to twelve acres reserved to allow a large oval for public use.

On April 26 1930 at Queens Town Church of Christ Frederick Joseph Herde elder son of F C Herde Angus Street Adelaide married Amy Doris Organ younger daughter of W Organ New Street Queens Town Pastor W J Brooker officiated. The ceremony featured a white tulle and silver lace gown with veil and train, blue georgette bridesmaids, flower girls in pink, and a brown travelling dress for the reception at LOOP Hall Alberton.

Four Men Imprisoned Over Unlawful Purpose at Port Adelaide Yard

Four laborers George Jones Gerald Sinclair James McCallum and James Flynn were imprisoned by Mr S D Ronald SM at Port Adelaide Police Court after being found near a broken truck in the Port Adelaide Dock Station yard on the night of May 14. A chisel bag and torch were found in their possession and they pleaded not guilty. Jones Sinclair and Flynn received two months each while McCallum got one month. Inspector J B Noblet prosecuted. Seamen's Mission Wile Street Converts Local Talent Night

A Seamen's Mission event on Wile Street showcased local talent with two standout performers from the 5. Lady Isobel impressed with a musical duet and songs by H Nielsen. E Nesbit also drew praise with classic numbers. Jack Hall delivered strong vocals with an encore The Rosary. Young elocutionist Miss Vander Chennai and other acts received warm applause. Mandoline, guitar, and mandoline pieces by Munday and others kept the evening lively for sailors and guests.

Exeter Hotel Yard Case Ends in Dismissal at Port Adelaide Court

In Port Adelaide Police Court the case against James Robert Rulston of Eth elton over alleged entering the Exeter Hotel yard on January 27 was dismissed after evidence failed to prove the yard was part of the hotel premises. Inspector Noblet and Constable Reidy gave conflicting accounts before the magistrate ruled the yard did not meet the complaint’s location. The Port Adelaide Institute then announced Edward James Rane Morgan as the new stipendiary magistrate at Wallaroo after Mr Ray’s departure, highlighting Morgan’s Queensland birth in 1900 and prominent family ties to former SA Premier Sir William Morgan.

Longtime Queenstown Church Elder Charles Lawton Dies

Charles Edward Lawton, a Christian elder for 39 years and church leader in Queenstown, passed away early April 29 after a long illness. He served as trustee, Bible class president, Bible School supervisor, and Home Mission Committee member, having joined the Church of Christ in 1877 and serving at Grote Street Hindmarsh and Queenstown before his death at 75. The community extends Christian sympathy to his family. In Port Adelaide an unrelated accident injured Arthur McNamara, 50, when a hay fork toppled a chute car, fracturing his leg. he received hospital care and was moved to Adelaide Hospital.

Arm Fracture After Belt Incident at Port Adelaide Works

Kilburn, employed at Australasian United Paint Company's Port Adelaide works, sustained a fracture of the left forearm when his arm was caught in a belt. Del Porter attended him at Port Adelaide Casualty Hospital, and he was later conveyed to Adelaide Hospital in the citizens' durance.
